Filip Chytils career could be in danger

NHL: Filip Chytil returns home

After reportedly suffering a concussion in early November, New York Rangers center Filip Chytil needs time to recover and will spend time in his native Czech Republic to get back on his feet.

The 24-year-old hockey player began skating again at the Blueshirts training facility about a month ago and has made significant progress in his fitness, the New York Post reported Friday. He also wants to return to action this season, but to improve his chances of success he will return home indefinitely. The player and his team have agreed to complete a refresher course that will see Chytil run under the watchful eye of a coach he will work with in the summer.

The first-round pick in the 2017 draft suffered a major shock when he was taken by Jesper Fast of the Carolina Hurricanes. Many remembered the three concussions that the number 72 had previously suffered and who recorded six assists in ten games this season. The Czech has been sidelined a dozen times since his first full year in the National League, 2018-2019, due to various physical problems.

If Chytil is unable to return to play in the 2023-2024 regular season, the Rangers will also free up $3.8 million more from their payroll.
