NHL: Goalkeeper vomits into his mask

Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko was unable to finish Wednesday’s game against the Edmonton Oilers for a very specific reason.

The 27-year-old athlete was battling the flu and returned to the locker room twelve minutes before the end of the third period.

“He started to feel dehydrated. He didn’t want to leave, but he threw up under his mask. So I told him, ‘You’ve got to get out,'” Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet said during the press conference following his team’s 8-1 win.

Before giving up again, Demko saved 21 of the 22 pucks that Connor McDavid and his gang sent his way.

Let’s see if the masked man will be in good shape to guard the net for his team on Saturday when the Canucks visit the Oilers at Rogers Place.
