NHL: Great news for the Jets

Winnipeg Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey has recovered from his lower body injury and will be able to fully participate in training camp in a month.

This is what the 28-year-old athlete said on Saturday, his comments were reported on the National Hockey League (NHL) website.

“Initially we were talking about a 4 to 6 week recovery period,” Morrissey said. It was obviously the worst time of year to get injured. They play year round for a chance to play in the playoffs. But on the other hand, it’s better if you have a few months to recover and you don’t have to rush to make a comeback.”

“I took my time and really tried to take the right approach. I’m 100 percent ready. With this injury there is no longer a problem.”

Morrissey was injured in the third game of the first round of the playoffs against the Vegas Golden Knights. The Jets lost to the eventual Stanley Cup champions in five games.

The left-back had his best NHL career in the 2022-23 season. In 78 games, he recorded 16 goals and 60 assists for 76 points.

“Josh really had a real heyday [défenseur] “The No. 1 last year,” said Jets forward Adam Lowry. He will continue in this direction and maintain this level of play.

Many changes

However, the Jets will have a very different lineup in 2023-2024, notably having traded center Pierre-Luc Dubois to the Los Angeles Kings and bought out forward Blake Wheeler’s contract.

“I think everyone had an inkling that some changes were on the horizon. “It’s always been like that in the NHL,” Morrissey said. We knew there were likely to be big changes. Too bad we couldn’t do more with the group we had because we thought we could achieve great things. It creates more motivation for the future.”

In fact, the star player can’t wait to get back to work.

“Over the past week I’ve felt the spark return to the ice. I can’t wait to get back to it. I still want to improve on last season and I want us to have the chance as a team to improve even more. Due to the injury in the first lap, it ended completely out of control for me. I am recovered, healthy and ready for next year.”
