The 24-year-old Finn will receive $1 million, according to Elliotte Friedman of the Sportsnet channel. His compensation will therefore decrease as the backer initialed a two-campaign, $3.1 million contract in 2021.
Valimaki was a first-round pick — his 16th pick overall — in the 2017 National Hockey League (NHL) draft. Since then, he has five goals and 28 points in 125 games.
He’s hit the target twice this season, adding 10 assists in 43 games. He showed a difference of -10 and was used by head coach André Tourigny at an average of 14:59 per game.
