NHL: Kane scores his first goal in a losing phase

Patrick Kane improved his record by scoring his first goal for the Detroit Red Wings, but that didn't stop his team from losing 5-1 to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday at Little Caesar Arena.

At the end of the first period, the former Chicago Blackhawks player hit a perfect wrist shot, beating Jonas Korpisalo up top. His linemate Alex DeBrincat also received an assist on this goal, which allowed the Red Wings to equalize.

Unfortunately for Kane, the rest of the game went in the visitors' favor. They were the ones who scored first with Claude Giroux on the power play.

The party continued during the Ottawa club's second engagement. Vladimir Tarasenko scored early in the quarter, while Dominik Kubalik beat his former team and Tim Stützle extended their team's lead to 4-1 after 40 minutes.

Jake Sanderson scored the fifth goal for the Sens in the third period.

Adding to the loss, Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin left the game in the first period after colliding with Mathieu Joseph and Parker Kelly. Number 71 collapsed on the ice and remained motionless for a few moments.

He never returned to the game after that. During the scene, David Perron hit Artem Zub in the head with a stick and was ejected from the game.

The Senators face the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday in Ottawa. The Red Wings, for their part, will look to get back to winning ways on Monday against the Stars in Dallas.

The Leafs have the upper hand over the Predators

The Toronto Maple Leafs scored a clear and flawless 4-0 win against the Nashville Predators.

Ilya Samsonov recorded his first shutout of the season with 18 saves. Queen City club star Auston Matthews contributed significantly to his team's success, scoring two goals. Since the start of the campaign he has now flashed the red light 18 times.

David Kampf scored the first goal at the end of the second period, while Noah Gregor sealed the Leafs' win with an unanswered goal in the final period.

The Predators also face the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday at the Bell Centre.

A first defeat abroad for the Kings

The Los Angeles Kings saw their streak of 11 consecutive wins on opponent ice come to an end as they lost 3-2 in overtime to the New York Islanders.

However, Todd McLellan's men were on course to record a 12th consecutive success abroad, leading 2-0 thanks to Adrian Kempe and Vladislav Gavrikov.

However, the Isles responded in the third period with two goals from Anders Lee and took the game into overtime. Jean-Gabriel Pageau gave his team the victory after just 13 seconds in overtime.
