The Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday acquired forward Lars Eller from the Washington Capitals, adding another former Montreal Canadiens player to their roster.

Some sources, including Sportsnet network reporter Elliotte Friedman, broke the news of the trade. Transaction details are yet to be determined.

Eller will join Artturi Lehkonen in Denver. The Dane won the Stanley Cup with the “Caps” in spring 2018, but the joint successes are not at the rendezvous in Washington this year. The organization has already traded Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway to the Boston Bruins, Marcus Johansson to the Minnesota Wild and Erik Gustafsson to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Alexander Ovechkin’s club ranks 13th in the National Hockey League Eastern Conference.

In 2022-23, Eller had seven goals and nine assists for 16 points in 60 games. His harvest is far from his best career: he scored 39 points in 69 games in 2018-2019. The veteran will become a full free agent next summer when he secures a five-year, $17.5 million deal.
