Senators This first round pick is still disappointing

NHL: Lassi Thomson is already back; Greer in Calgary

The Ottawa Senators apparently considered making a mistake when they lost promising defenseman Lassi Thomson to waivers, as they claimed him in turn on Monday.

A little over a week ago, the Anaheim Ducks had their sights set on the 23-year-old Finn, who had been made available to all National Hockey League (NHL) teams. Thomson, the 19th overall pick in the 2019 draft, was an interesting target.

However, the right-back didn’t impress the California team enough as his name was listed on waivers on Sunday. Here he is again with the “Sens”, with whom he has been playing since 2020-2021.

Thomson spent most of his time in the American League, but also had several NHL auditions for a total of 18 games. Last year, he scored 33 points in 56 games with the Belleville Senators.

Greer returns to Canada

Quebec native AJ Greer has been claimed by the Calgary Flames. The Joliette native will play for a Canadian team for the first time since his half-season stint with the 2015-2016 Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.

The 26-year-old left winger played his first full season on the Bettman circuit in 2022-2023. With the Boston Bruins, the sturdy forward collected 12 points and 114 penalty minutes in 61 games.

For his career, Greer has 20 points in 108 games. In Calgary he will fight for the vacant position left by his injured compatriot Jakob Pelletier.

In addition, the Pittsburgh Penguins have also signed 23-year-old defenseman John Ludvig (Florida Panthers) via waiver. The Colorado Avalanche have reached out to Arizona Coyotes goaltender Ivan Prosvetov.
