The arrival of star defenseman Erik Karlsson to the Pittsburgh Penguins has caught the attention of other teams in the National Hockey League’s Metropolitan Division, and the veteran may want to keep an eye out for him, especially when he comes up against the Washington Capitals.
The Pens’ big rivals took note of the three-team swap between the San Jose Sharks and the Montreal Canadiens, which resulted in the Swede being sent to western Pennsylvania a few weeks ago. Plus, the resilient Tom Wilson risks calling the shots in the next confrontations with Sidney Crosby’s band in 2023-2024. Known for his often unfair hitting, physical play and sometimes grueling fights, the veteran has no intention of being imposed by the youngest recipient of the James Norris Trophy.

“Karlsson obviously has top-notch talent and it’s always fun to see another hockey player. He’s super talented and does things at the highest level. Ultimately, however, he is now an opponent [de section] and we will try to make life difficult for him,” the attacker promised in an interview with radio station TSN 1050.
The Penguins’ brand win earned him 101 points last season, earning him the league’s top defenseman award for the third time in his career. For his part, Wilson is claiming 1,299 penalty minutes in the regular season.
