NHL: The Sabres’ bad streak ends

After a series of three straight losses, the Buffalo Sabers used their visit to Chicago to return to winning ways with a 3-2 win over the Blackhawks on Sunday night at the United Center.

Overall it was a close game we had. The Sabers took leads 1-0 and 2-1, but Luke Richardson’s men responded each time. It took until the third period to see the goal that made the difference, and it came from a former overall winner.

In fact, Buffalo defenseman Erik Johnson bypassed fullback Seth Jones near the boards before moving toward Petr Mrazek’s goal and beating him upfield. Rasmus Dahlin also had a hand in all three of his team’s goals, opening the scoring in the first period before later adding two assists as Johnson and Jeff Skinner signaled the red light.

Connor Bedard, for his part, was involved in Philipp Kurashev’s goal at the very end of the second period. Taylor Raddysh was the other Hawks player to pull the strings.

With this setback, Chicago has only one win in six home games since the start of the year. The Illinois club will return to action on Wednesday against the Blue Jackets in Columbus. The Sabers will travel to Washington later that day to challenge the Capitals.
