NHL: This Swiss player will add depth to the Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks added Swiss player Pius Suter to their roster on Friday and signed a two-year, $3.2 million contract.

The 27-year-old hockey player became an unrestricted free agent after signing a contract of the same term with the Detroit Red Wings. However, he will receive half of the previous amount as his previous contract was worth $6.5 million.

“Adding a player who has scored 43 goals in the last three seasons is a plus for our offense and he can also play in the manpower squad. His versatility to play center or wing will be an advantage [l’entraîneur-chef Rick Tocchet] “More opportunities in building his scrimmage lines,” general manager Patrik Allvin said in a statement.

Suter was never drafted by a National League team but has 87 points in 216 games over the past three seasons, including his first for the Chicago Blackhawks. Last year he had 14 goals and 10 assists for 24 points in 79 games for the Wings.

Previously, the pivot developed in his home country mainly with the Zurich Lions. In the 2019/20 season, he hit the target 30 times in 50 games.
