NHL: This team is interested in winning the Norris Trophy

San Jose Sharks defenseman Erik Karlsson’s name remains popular in discussions of all kinds, and teams interested in acquiring the star player include the Pittsburgh Penguins.

According to The Athletic’s website, The Pens’ hockey operations president, Kyle Dubas, admitted to discussing the filing with the California organization. In addition, the communication channels between the two parties would always be open. However, Sharks general manager Mike Grier is reportedly unwilling to pay a significant portion of the 33-year veteran’s $11.5 million annual salary. His agreement is valid until the end of the 2026-2027 election campaign.

Last season, Karlsson had 101 points, including 25 goals, in 82 games, earning his third Norris Trophy of his career. Still, his team finished 14th in the Western Conference with just 22 wins.

In Pittsburgh, former Montreal Canadiens Jeff Petry is the subject of rumors of a move, and if he leaves, Dubas would have more wiggle room under the salary cap to fit into the San Jose Guard’s contract. Petry will have a $6.25 million impact next year.
