Nicaraguan lawmakers highlight achievements of Sandinista government

During the first regular session of the 39th legislature, MP Cristóbal Portobanco referred to the growth and transformation that the nation is undergoing after eliminating the “disasters” inherited from neoliberal governments.

“Since 2007, Nicaragua has embarked on a path of reconciliation, reconstruction, growth and transformation,” he said.

It symbolizes the efforts that have since been made in this Central American nation, led by President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo.

“They have effected transcendental transformations by bringing about a change in public policies to combat poverty and extreme poverty,” he said.

For his part, MP Andrés Zamora highlighted the progress made in the field of public health, which shows, for example, a reduction in maternal mortality from 115 in 2006 to 37 in 2022.

According to lawmakers, another benefit enjoyed by the people of Nicaragua today is free and quality education.

In this sense, another member of the Sandinista Bank, Wálmaro Gutiérrez, recalled that in 2007, when the second phase of the revolution began here, free education was the first decree promulgated by the Executive.
