Nicolas Cage said he’s unsure about returning to the Spider-Man franchise for the upcoming Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse movie.

The 59-year-old actor voiced the character of Spider-Man Noir in the 2018 animated film Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.

He voiced the character of Spider-Man Noir, an iteration of the Peter Parker character from the 1930s universe.

Speaking to Outlet Screen Rant, the Oscar winner was asked if he was involved in the next installment of the series.

“You’d have to ask Sony,” said the actor, known for films like Leaving Las Vegas, Face/Off and The Rock. “I don’t know what’s going on with it. Nobody talked to me about it. Ask her. I do not know. I really don’t.’

Cage said he hopes to reprise the role in the future, calling her “a great character.”

“I love Spider-Man Noir too,” he said. “Spider-Man is the coolest superhero. And then you combine that with Cagney and Bogart and Edward G. Robinson, come on, it’s a great character.”

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was released in December 2018, has grossed more than $375 million worldwide and won the 2019 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

Other notable cast members whose voices were heard in the cast included Shameik Moore, Jake Johnson, Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali, Brian Tyree Henry, Lily Tomlin, Luna Lauren Velez, Zoë Kravitz, Liev Schreiber, and Chris Pine.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is slated to hit theaters on June 2, while a third film in the franchise, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is slated for release in March 2024.
