Nicolas Cage wants to tell you "Bye" go to the cinema and try out television

(CNN) – Nicolas Cage is a movie star with more than 100 films under his belt, but the Oscar-winning actor may be ready to try something new.

“I feel like I’ve largely said what I need to say about cinema,” Cage said in an interview with Uproxx published Monday. “I would say ‘goodbye.’ “I did what I had to do with cinema and now I want to move on,” he later added.

Cage, who is currently starring in Dream Scenario, has four more film projects lined up in which he will appear. Then, he said, he hoped for a career after film that would allow him to “change formats and find a different way to express my acting.”

“I am very interested in immersive streaming with episodic television. “I saw things that can be done now with the characters and the time they are given to express themselves,” he said.

Cage’s credits allowed him to “explore the boundaries of film acting” in all genres, he said, but he felt he “may have nothing left to learn in film.”

Cage describes himself as a learner and strives for more.

“Maybe I can learn something from TV,” he said.

While a format change is attractive to Cage, the 59-year-old is also looking forward to spending more time with his family, including his new daughter, whom he shares with wife Riko Shibata.

“The most important thing is my children,” Cage said. “I can find an episodic show that stays in a place where I don’t have to go all the time, where we can all be together. That would be great on a personal level.”

“Dream Scenario” is in theaters now.
