Nicole Kidman may be nominated for her fifth Oscar for her role in Being Ricardo, but she wasn’t at the annual Nominees Dinner on Monday at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel.
Variety can exclusively show Kidman at home in Nashville on doctor’s orders, recovering from a torn hamstring. She was filming the upcoming Amazon series The Expats in Los Angeles as a pre-existing injury escalated.
Filming for the show continues this week but will be temporarily on hold while producers figure out when they can resume production and whether they need to shoot Kidman before she returns, according to an Amazon spokesperson.
Based on Janice YK Lee’s 2016 bestseller The Expatriates and directed by Lulu Wang (The Farewell), The Expats focuses on a group of three expatriate women living in Hong Kong. It is produced by Kidman’s Blossom Films.
The Expats also stars Sarayu Blue as Hilary Starr, Jack Huston as David Starr, Brian Tee as Clarke, and Ji Yong Yoo as Mercy. The series is executive produced by Wan, Kidman, Daniele Melia, Teresa Park, Per Saari, Stan Wlodkowski and Alice Bell.
The flare-up of Kidman’s injury comes at a time when the Oscar-winning actress is in the midst of awards season with a number of upcoming projects, including Robert Eggers’ The Northerner set for release in April and the Aquaman sequel in December. In addition to an Oscar nomination, Kidman’s performance as Lucille Ball also earned her a SAG nomination and a Golden Globe win.
Kidman last attended the SAG Awards on February 27 in Santa Monica.
