Nicole Kidmans history making Life Achievement Award from the American Film

Nicole Kidman’s history-making Life Achievement Award from the American Film Institute has been postponed

Nicole Kidman was set to make history this year when she became the first Australian actress to receive the American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award.

And now the AFI has revealed that the 56-year-old homegrown Hollywood superstar will have to wait until next year to receive the prestigious award.

Originally scheduled for June, the ceremony will now take place on April 24, 2024 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.

The event was postponed due to the Writers Guild of America strike, which began in May and ended September 27, Variety reports.

Previous recipients of the AFI award include legendary heavyweights of world cinema such as Jane Fonda, George Clooney, Robert de Niro, Al Pacino and Meryl Streep.

The institute’s prize, awarded by the AFI Board of Trustees, is one of the film industry’s highest honors, along with an Oscar.

When Nicole announced the news of her stories last November, she posted a glamorous picture with the caption: “What an honor!” Thank you to the American Film Institute.

“And to everyone who has been a part of this journey,” she continued.

“I look forward to seeing you in June.”

AFI chairwoman, film producer Kathleen Kennedy, praised Nicole for the official announcement.

“Nicole Kidman has enchanted for decades with her bold artistry and screen icon glamor,” she said.

Nicole will be the 49th recipient of the AFI Life Achievement Award, first presented in 1973.

In her four-decade career, the ageless redhead has worked with some of the greatest filmmakers of her time, including Stanley Kubrick, George Miller, Sofia Coppola, Jane Campion, Sydney Pollack and Lars von Trier.

After being born in Hawaii in 1967, Nicole began her career in Australia, initially gaining fame as a child actress in films such as Bush Christmas (1983) and BMX Bandits (1983).

She later won critical acclaim for her role as a rebellious 1960s teenager in the groundbreaking Kennedy Miller miniseries Vietnam (1987).
