Foxboro prepares for the second night of the Taylor Swift Eras Tour, including associated traffic delays and the possibility of rain.
Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour kicked off Friday night at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. Thousands of fans – dressed in themed outfits and even a banana suit – flocked to the stadium during Friday’s rush hour.
“At concerts it’s a completely different group of people. Many of them have never been here and don’t know where they are going,” Ann-Marie English said on Friday. “It’s deadlock.”
Foxboro Police had warned that the intersection of Route 1 and North Street would be closed Friday due to expected traffic congestion, and drivers would only be able to make right turns.
City residents plan to settle down in the next few days, but they say they’ve gotten used to it by now.
From themed outfits to Taylor Swift cupcakes, companies are also hoping to capitalize on the crowds, as the date has been on their calendars for months since the concert was first announced.
“When there’s 100,000 people in the city, that’s definitely going to boost the business,” said Craig Carreira, general manager of Union Straw.
Fans should also consider the possibility of rain. Even if it is light at the beginning, there may be intermittent heavy rain this afternoon/evening and again overnight.
Rainfall levels can total 1 to 3 inches in parts of southern and central MA with winds of 25 miles per hour.
The Gillette Stadium official account wrote that they are monitoring the situation because of the rain.
“All concerts are subject to rain or shine, but if public safety officials determine that storms in the immediate area pose a safety risk, we will provide guidance on how to protect themselves until the concert can resume,” they wrote in a tweet.
“Umbrellas are not allowed at Gillette Stadium, so be sure to bring your ponchos! 🌧,” they added.
