The former ambassador scored her first victory against the former tenant of the White House, who has dominated the race for the Republican Party nomination for several weeks.
An honorary victory? Nikki Haley won the Republican Party primaries in the District of Columbia (Washington DC) this Sunday, March 3, well ahead of the former President of the United States, Donald Trump. According to the first results announced by American media, the former ambassador received more than 60% of the vote.
This is Nikki Haley's first victory since the beginning of the Republican primaries, which Donald Trump has clearly dominated for several weeks.
However, this achievement is only symbolic: Washington DC is a very Democratic territory (Joe Biden received more than 90% of the vote against Donald Trump in 2020) and represents only 19 of the 2,467 delegates to the Republican convention.
Defeats in several states
On the eve of Super Tuesday, in which the former President of the United States was expected to surpass and win around ten states in a single day, Nikki Haley shows that she is resisting as best she can.
She was in trouble for weeks and was beaten in her home state of South Carolina in late February. This weekend it was Missouri and Michigan that she left to Donald Trump.
Despite these numerous setbacks, Nikki Haley insists she will not give up and will remain a candidate until the Republican Party convention scheduled for this summer in Wisconsin.
On the NBC set this Sunday, she hinted for the first time since the campaign began that she no longer feels obliged to support the former president after the Republican primaries.
