Nine American soldiers killed in helicopter crash in Kentucky

US military confirms Black Hawk helicopters collided during training mission The cause of the crash was initially unclear.

Nine soldiers died in an accident involving two Black Hawk helicopters in the US state of Kentucky. The incident took place on Wednesday night (local time) during a training operation with night vision devices, a US military representative said at a news conference on Thursday. All soldiers were stationed at the Fort Campbell military base. It was not clear what led to the collision, he said.

Four and five servicemen were aboard the two helicopters. “The nine people we lost are children of God,” said Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear. He announced on Twitter a visit to Fort Campbell base “to support our troops and their families after last night’s tragic incident”.
