NLCS Game 5: Phillies’ offense awakens against Diamondbacks; Scores, highlights, news and live trackers – Yahoo Sports

The Philadelphia Phillies had a 2-0 lead in the NLCS, but it disappeared when the Arizona Diamondbacks won two straight games in Phoenix. After trailing by three runs on Friday, Arizona ended a rally in the eighth inning with a go-ahead run by Gabriel Moreno to secure a thrilling 6-5 Game 4 victory.

On Saturday in Game 5, the Phillies sent right-hander Zack Wheeler back to the mound against the D-backs’ Zac Gallen. That was also the pitching matchup for Game 1 in Philadelphia, which the Phillies won 5-3.

The Phillies struck first, scoring two runs on three singles against Gallen.

While scoring, Bryce Harper had a fearsome collision with Gabriel Moreno, who seemed confused but stayed in the game.

From there, both pitchers cruised for a while, giving up little, until Kyle Schwarber hit an absolutely no-doubt hit in the top of the sixth, putting the Phillies up 3-0. It was Schwarber’s 19th postseason home run, the most among left-handed hitters in MLB history.

Harper followed two batters later by sinking a solo shot of his own. It was his 11th postseason home run with Philly, tying the franchise record in just 28 games.

Alek Thomas finally got the Diamondbacks on the field in the seventh with a solo home run off Wheeler that ended his scoreless outing.
