No Canadians could be evacuated from the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, Global Affairs Canada confirmed.
The Rafah border crossing, which connects the Gaza Strip with Egypt, remained closed throughout the day, preventing any foreigner from leaving the Palestinian enclave.
“We have communicated with all Canadians who reported to the border today and hope that the border crossing will reopen tomorrow and allow them to cross.” Today’s closure could also cause delays for other Canadians, permanent residents and their family members waiting for passage,” Ottawa lamented.
On Tuesday, a first group of 75 Canadians, permanent residents and their family members were able to evacuate the Gaza Strip. They were picked up by Canadian consular officials and taken by bus to Cairo.
You now have 72 hours to leave Egypt at your own expense. In the meantime, the Canadian government is providing them with “consular assistance, food, shelter and basic needs.”
