This is Android expert Mishaal Rahman reporting the change to the Play Store – via Android Police. It indicates that some users will get a warning message when they want to install certain apps, something they have never seen before. In another tweet, he states that other mentions of the change have already been shown, including an initial one in October. We can expect the deployment to be more broadly based now after a trial period with a limited number of users.
Some users report that Google Play tells them that “recent data from similar devices indicates this app may no longer work on your device”.

An observation shared by Android Police, which recalls that “the aim was to collect data on the frequency with which applications not only crashed on users, but also when they presented annoying blocks of several seconds. Google set thresholds of 1% for both of these aspects, all devices combined. However, for similar devices, triggering this message is fixed at 8% crashes.
The message displayed in red states that “recent data from similar devices shows this app may no longer work on your device”. This doesn’t mean that the application isn’t usable at all, it simply means that you’re likely to experience crashes or premature slowdowns.
