No more unpleasant surprises: the Play Store tells you when an application is too buggy – Frandroid

Google is starting to roll out a change in its Play Store: on the page of an application you’re trying to download, the store can tell you if other users with the same smartphone or tablet are experiencing crashes. What to know if his device is powerful enough or not to run the current game for example?

An example of a horrible feeling is when you spend time downloading a video game on your phone, you pass the loading screen and… it drags on. It’s not only frustrating but also wastes our time. To solve this problem, the Play Store will tell you if this or that application tends to stop on your smartphone or touchpad. This despite the fact that the App Store will be more discreet on Android 14.

A welcome update for the Play Store

This is Android expert Mishaal Rahman reporting the change to the Play Store – via Android Police. It indicates that some users will get a warning message when they want to install certain apps, something they have never seen before. In another tweet, he states that other mentions of the change have already been shown, including an initial one in October. We can expect the deployment to be more broadly based now after a trial period with a limited number of users.

Some users report that Google Play tells them that “recent data from similar devices indicates this app may no longer work on your device”.

I’ve never seen this before, so I think it might be relatively new.

An observation shared by Android Police, which recalls that “the aim was to collect data on the frequency with which applications not only crashed on users, but also when they presented annoying blocks of several seconds. Google set thresholds of 1% for both of these aspects, all devices combined. However, for similar devices, triggering this message is fixed at 8% crashes.

The message displayed in red states that “recent data from similar devices shows this app may no longer work on your device”. This doesn’t mean that the application isn’t usable at all, it simply means that you’re likely to experience crashes or premature slowdowns.
