No parole: Defendant attacks judge after verdict

A judge suffered a blow to the head in a courtroom in Las Vegas, USA, after a defendant lunged to attack her after learning he would not be granted parole.

Mary Kay Holthus of Clark County Court in Nevada reviewed the verdict in the case of Delone Redden, who was accused of negligent assault: last year he attacked a person with a baseball bat.

The defense had asked for probation for the defendant, to which the judge replied: “I think it's time to try something different.”

At that point, Redden lunged at Holthus while several court employees struggled with the defendant. The scene was filmed by surveillance cameras at the Regional Justice Center in Las Vegas.

Redden was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center. He now faces new criminal charges, including assaulting a judge and court officials.
