No, Russia did not warn the United States that it would destroy them in an hour

A video of this has been circulating on social media Russia would have warned the United States that it could destroy it in an hour. The clip, which has received more than 1,000 reactions to date, shows various video clips of alleged Russian missile maneuvers for almost seven minutes. However, no spokesman for the Soviet country has made these statements.

This statement, if true, would have transcended various media. We did a search using the Google tool and found no related entries. We repeated the process with the English and Russian words, but the same thing happened.

Then, with equal results (1, 2 and 3), we turn to the Yandex platform.

What is happening between Russia, Ukraine and NATO?

When the bridge connecting Russia to Crimea, the former Ukrainian region that Putin seized in 2014, blew up two weeks ago, while it was not entirely clear whether the attack was a Ukrainian attack, Russian aggression and threats escalated. President Vladimir Putin has signaled since September that they will not shy away from using nuclear weapons against the eastern European country should their country’s security be threatened.

However, this is not new. Since the war between Russia and Ukraine began, Putin and various officials in that country have scrambled to demonstrate their nuclear capabilities to prevent NATO from directly intervening in the conflict. Tensions have recently grown over this body’s indirect support for Ukraine.

The treaty of NATO, or the Atlantic Alliance, states that all of its member states undertake to defend one another in the event of armed aggression against any one of them. The pact currently includes 29 countries, including the USA, France, England, Spain and Germany.

However, Ukraine is not yet a party. For Russia, one of the main reasons for the current war is the Eastern European country’s application for this alliance, since – as a border – believes that this poses a serious risk to their security.

For this reason, according to various media reports (1, 2, 3), all NATO aid to Ukraine has so far been provided by secret services and military resources. If a direct conclusion is drawn from the pact in Russia, war could escalate to much of Europe.

This support was not good for Russia, and therefore it would have warned against using its nuclear potential.

What did Russian spokesmen say about a possible war with NATO?

As collected from various media (1, 2, 3), Dmitry Rogozin, the then head of the Russian Space Agency, stated this on May 8, 2022 through his Telegram account Your country has the ability to destroy all NATO countries in 30 minutes.

Then he added that they do not intend to escalate the dispute to such a level as the impact of a nuclear war on the planet would be severe. In this sense, he clarified, the “Western enemy” must be defeated with conventional weapons.

Conclusion

No Russian spokesman or official has warned the United States that they can destroy it in an hour. There are no press files with such statements. Earlier statements from the former Soviet country were even more serious, but they do not match what was expressed in the viral video. Therefore, we qualify the information as incorrect.
