A funny rumor rocked the social network TikTok this Tuesday, August 29th: the start of the school year would have been postponed from Monday, September 4th to Monday, September 18th. Or fifteen days of additional vacation for French schoolchildren.
“What the hell?” Everyone tells me: Yes, the start of the school year has been pushed back to September 18th. What is that ? Did I miss something? » asks a TikTok user in a video posted to his account. And for good reason: This Tuesday, TikTok comments were filled with the misleading statement: “The start of the school year has been postponed until September 18th.”
“Is the start of the school year really delayed? If you just woke up, this is the must-have news of the week. I won’t keep you waiting any longer, the answer is yes, another user mistakenly says on camera. In fact, given the current geopolitical conflict between China and Russia and the high tensions, Emmanuel Macron was forced to re-enter military service through the curriculum,” he cites as (false) evidence a “document intercepted between Emmanuel Macron and the prefects” .

It’s not mine, but I’m postponing the start of the school year. Is it really delayed until September 18th? It’s up to you to confirm it to me #fypシ #return #schedule

The information is completely wrong. It appears that she is actually part of the @Dailymission_ TikTok account, which is followed by over 287,000 people. This account promotes an application that offers daily missions… for which its users can be paid by converting “tokens” into “real money”.
And this Tuesday’s mission was to make people believe that the start of the school year had been postponed. “Secret Mission: Comment “The start of the school year has been postponed until September 18th” below all the TikToks you will see today. Everyone will want explanations and never respond to them,” says one of the faces of the application in a TikTok. Not surprisingly, this user is also the Internet user we saw in the video that evoked the geopolitical conflict that justified the postponement of the start of the school year (which is not available on his account but was shared by other Internet users ). ..
Rejection by the government
In any case, the false information has reached such proportions that government spokesman Olivier Véran had to deny it on his own TikTok account. “So are we going to move the start of the school year to September 18th? No, obviously not,” he says. “Sorry to ruin the mood…” he laughs in the video’s caption.

The speaker used this short video to remind you what’s new for middle and high school students as the school year begins. “If you are studying, you will receive one hour of support per week in French or mathematics. Hundreds of colleges will experiment with two more hours of exercise per week. I’m sure you like it.”
“When you’re in high school, it’s the return of math, 1.5 hours a week from first grade. The Abitur will also continue to develop. The special exams take place in June and the oral French baccalaureate is carried out on 16 and more than 20 texts, he explains. Wearing the abaya and all conspicuous religious symbols is definitely forbidden. We forget whether in middle school or high school. Harassment of students can lead to changes in facilities. Until now, too often it was the students who were harassed, it was a double whammy.”
In addition, Olivier Véran recalls: “If you are a student, your crous rents will not go up. On the other hand, the study grants will be increased by at least 370 euros per year. Crous meals continue to cost €1 [pour les boursiers, ndlr] »
