Santo Domingo, October 17 (Prensa Latina) Nobel Prize winner in economics Michael Kremer today recognized the Dominican government’s interest in assessing the impact of public policies through the search for scientific data.
Kremer, who will give a keynote speech at the opening of the First International Development Assessment Forum in the Dominican Republic tomorrow, emphasized that with this step the state guarantees an improvement in the quality of life of the people.
“I appreciate that governments are sufficiently committed to the well-being of their people instead of assuming that everything will work as planned,” he said in a video sent to the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development.
American Kremer was honored by the Swedish Academy of Sciences in 2019 for “his experimental approach to alleviating global poverty” and will speak at the three-day forum on the experimental method in economics, which won him the 2019 Nobel Prize.
In this context, he defends that it can be used as a tool to measure the level of public action while encouraging institutions to promote social innovation.
He, also director of the Development Innovation Lab (DIL) at the University of Chicago, received the Swedish Central Bank Prize together with Abhijit Banerjee (Bombay, 1961) and Esther Duflo (Paris, 1972).
