Nobel Prize winners in Chemistry may be revealed prematurely news

Confusion in Stockholm: According to Swedish media reports, this year’s selected Nobel Prize winners in Chemistry may have accidentally been revealed prematurely.

As several Swedish media outlets unanimously reported today, the names of the prize winners were contained in a press release emailed by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (KVA) in the morning – four hours before the actual announcement.

Academia: “No decision has been made yet”

Members of the academy told several Swedish media outlets today that it was an oversight and that a decision had not yet been made on the winners. The academy spokeswoman told DPA in Stockholm upon request: “The academy has not yet made a decision.”

The announcement states that three researchers will receive the 2023 Nobel Prize in Chemistry “for the discovery and synthesis of quantum dots.” The three researchers working in the USA, Moungi G. Bawendi, Louis E. Brus and Alexei I. Ekimov, reported, among others, on the radio station SVT and the newspapers “Dagens Nyheter” and “Aftonbladet”.

The winners of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry will not be officially announced until 11:45 am. Previously, the committee responsible for the Nobel meets at the Academy to discuss various candidates and then make a joint decision on the prize winners. Who will receive the Nobel Prizes is always kept secret before they are announced in all award categories.
