Noise complaint: A neighbor’s argument turns into a bloodbath in New York

A neighbor’s argument over noise ended in bloodshed when a suspect shot and killed a man and his stepson in New York on Sunday night.

In surveillance video obtained by the New York Post, 47-year-old Jason Pass is seen for the first time pacing angrily outside the apartment above him.

A woman quickly came out of the house to talk to the man. An argument breaks out when his son Chinwai Mode, 27, tries to intervene. It was only when Bladimyr Mathurin, the young man’s stepfather, confronted the neighbor with a pair of scissors in his hand that the situation came to a head.

As the argument reached its climax, Pass pulled out a gun and shot both men several times before fleeing.

Heartbroken, Bladimyr Mathurin’s wife and Chinwai Mode’s mother, Marie Delille, told the New York Post that her family has been at war with their neighbor for a year because of the noise.

“We discovered that the upstairs apartment had no carpet. It was a wooden floor, so a lot of noise. These calls were caused by people coming and going,” said NYPD Chief Detective Joseph Kenny, adding that there were six complaints from the shooter before the events.
