ADISQ prefers the status quo so as not to discriminate against female artists. “We believe that parity within the industry is still very fragile and that it is not yet time to withdraw five prestigious nominations from women in music,” said Julie Gariépy, executive producer and director of the ADISQ Galas, in sent a message to the journal.

However, she noted that retaining the interpreter category “is under consideration by ADISQ” and as part of the annual regulatory review process “we will continue to reflect on being as inclusive and equitable as possible, with two main objectives in mind .”

Earlier Monday, Gemini management announced that acting awards will now be gender neutral in order to streamline the number of categories at the annual Television Industry Awards.

ADISQ has presented male and female performer of the year awards since the very first Gala de l’ADISQ in 1979. At the last presentation of the gala, the Félix were won by Hubert Lenoir and Roxane Brunau.
