The water pressure stopped the leak on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. Gas in Nord Stream 1 is still escaping from the pipeline, but less intensely.
The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea has no more leaks. This was announced by the operator of the gas pipeline on Saturday.
“The water pressure has more or less closed the pipeline so that the gas in it cannot escape,” said their spokesman Ulrich Lissek. “The conclusion is that there is still gas in the pipeline,” he added. Also, three countries, France, Britain and Germany, will help Norway secure its oil and gas sector. This decision, a first, comes after the alleged one Nord Stream 2 sabotage a few days ago.
As Europe’s leading natural gas supplier, Norway will welcome a foreign presence of military troops.
security at stake
EU leaders will discuss the security of their infrastructure next week, European Council President Charles Michel said on Saturday after damage to the Nord Stream gas pipelines under the Baltic Sea has been described by several European leaders as sabotage were classified.
“The sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines is a threat to the EU. We are committed to securing our critical infrastructure. Leaders will raise this issue at the upcoming Prague summit,” Charles Michel said in a tweet after a meeting with Danish Prime Minister Mette Friedrichsen.
