North America sinks in the cold

A great atmospheric trough brings with it an icy chill. The most amazing? It spreads to northern Mexico.

The cold is everywhere

The magnitude of this cold is surprising as it is about to take over an entire continent. Almost all of North America is affected, falling below normal for the season. The USA in particular are bumping up against each other with a difference of almost 6 °C. Among them, the Midwest wins the award for coolness with an anomaly of almost 10 °C.

This frigid arctic current brings its share of surprises by unloading its chill onto the continent. It has to be for whom it benefits: In return, Alaska and northern Canada will see slightly milder temperatures than usual.

Cold Magnitude

From one extreme to the other

However, the beginning of autumn in the province seemed to carry a very different promise. In fact, it still smelled like summer in the first half of the month: the 20°C mark was exceeded for no less than 6 days and we even recorded a temperature record of 25.3°C on November 5th. The awakening is therefore quite brutal. While Quebec’s anomalies are not the most important, the thermal shock is very real.

First winter-worthy week

So it’s no wonder that winter is coming to us on Sunday evening. The trend will continue throughout the week and will peak on Wednesday. Daily mercury should remain limited to around 0°C or even below for many regions. Nights will also be cool, falling below freezing in many places.
