North Korea fired several cruise missiles, the South Korean military reported on Tuesday (23). The missiles fell into the Yellow Sea off the west coast of the Korean Peninsula.
The shots were fired on Wednesday (24th) around 7 a.m. local time (Tuesday, 7 p.m. in Brasília). Intelligence agencies in South Korea and the United States are analyzing the launches.
The North Koreans said last week's test was in response to joint military exercises by South Korea, the United States and Japan.
Until the publication of this report, North Korea had not commented on the shots fired this Tuesday.
The Korean peninsula has faced an escalation of tensions in recent months. Relations between South Korea and North Korea have deteriorated in recent years, leading to more frequent military exercises in the region.
While South Korea has conducted military actions in partnership with the United States and Japan, North Korea has shown signs of preparing for war.
Recently, Kim Jongun's sister, Kim Yojong, stated that any provocation from an enemy would result in a “baptism of fire” response.
Between January 5 and 7, North Korea fired shots in a maritime border region with South Korea. The artillery shelling prompted South Korea to urge residents of islands in the region to seek shelter.
