Pyongyang continues its provocations. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has overseen the test firing of a new weapon system that will increase the effectiveness of its tactical nuclear weapons, state media reported on Sunday (April 17).
The launch is the latest in an unprecedented series of sanctions-lifting weapons tests this year, including last month’s launch of a full-range ICBM.
The new tactical missile “is of great importance to radically improve the firepower of long-range artillery units and increase the efficiency of exploitation of tactical nuclear weapons,” official KCNA news agency said. She added that the test was successful, without giving the exact date or place that test firing had been carried out.
South Korean Armed Forces Headquarters said it spotted two projectiles fired late Saturday, traveling a distance of 110 km at a height of 25 km at a speed of about Mach 4. The United States has said it is “aware” of the North Korean statement’s mention of this testing and monitoring of the situation, a Pentagon spokesman said.
