North Korea has tested an underwater nuclear weapon system, state media KCNA reported, Thursday (18). Kim Jongun's regime said the test was in response to joint military exercises by South Korea, the United States and Japan.
Tests of the Haeil523 system were carried out in the waters off the east coast of North Korea. The country did not give the exact date on which the exercise was carried out.
“Responsive measures at sea and underwater will continue to deter hostile military maneuvers by the U.S. and allied navies,” a North Korean spokesman said.
The military exercises between the United States, South Korea and Japan, condemned by North Korea, took place between Tuesday (16) and this Wednesday. A North American aircraft carrier was used.
It is not the first time that Kim Jongun has responded to such a military action with weapons tests.
The artillery shelling prompted South Korea to urge residents of islands in the region to seek shelter. In addition, the South Korean military conducted military exercises in response.
