Swedish company Northvolt has acquired 18.5 million square meters of land in Saint-Basile-le-Grand and McMasterville to build its future battery mega-factory.
Quartier MC2 Inc., whose first shareholder is Gestionimmobilier GAP Inc., a company owned by Quebec investor Luc Poirier, sold the property.
GAP Real Estate Management Inc. brings together Boda Group (Alice Minying Wu), Gestion S. Gariépy Inc. (Serge Gariépy) and Poirier Développementimmobilier Inc. (Luc Poirier).
The site of the former Canadian Industries Limited (CIL) explosives factory will in future be used by the battery manufacturer Northvolt, which wants to build its mega-factory with 3,000 workers.
1.4 GS public funds
In mid-September, Le Journal reported that Quebec is preparing to allocate almost 1.4 billion in public funds to the Northvolt battery sector’s flagship project.
Despite Northvolt’s seduction campaigns, which did not shy away from reaching out to citizens, many residents still do not see the Swedish company’s entry positively.
In late September, Northvolt’s co-founder admitted to the Journal that the Legault government had “put a lot of money on the table.”
