Nothing and no one revives Huberdeau

Calgary Flames head coach Ryan Huska is trying everything to revitalize his star forward Jonathan Huberdeau, but nothing seems to be working at the moment.

However, he thought he had found a solution by pairing the Quebecer with captain Mikael Backlund and Blake Coleman during the Flames’ visit to the Bell Center on Tuesday.

However, this veteran trio was the club’s worst against the Montreal Canadiens, finding the back of the net five times while allowing 10 shots to the opposition.

Huska returns to Alberta after three games in Ontario and Quebec and does not seem inclined to end the experience, quite the opposite as this trio will not be regrouped for Thursday night’s clash against the strong Vancouver Canucks.

“Anyone who plays with Mikael [Backlund] “Tends to breathe easier because we know he will be there to cover up mistakes,” Huska said at a news conference Thursday. Blake [Coleman] and Mikael [Backlund] “They have a connection, so we’re hoping we can ignite some sparks with ‘Hubby’.”

The same goes for Huberdeau, who had nothing but good words for his teammates Backlund and Coleman.

“They’re really responsible players defensively,” Huberdeau told reporters. We’re playing against the best opposition lines, so you have to make sure you’re good defensively. “Backs” is a very smart guy. He’s in the right position most of the time, which helps us offensively. Coleman is a fast guy with a good shot. We can quickly win the puck back in the defensive zone and create excitement on offense.”

Let’s see if Tuesday’s game was just a mistake. Huberdeau has collected just three assists in his last 11 appearances.
