Nothing Phone (2): the iPhone among Android phones? – Connect

The Nothing brand enjoyed great success with its Nothing Ear headphones (1) and is celebrating again this fall in Canada with a particularly original Android phone, which many are calling the “Android iPhone”.

It has to be said that the device looks amusingly similar to an iPhone 15 Plus. Its screen has a diagonal of 6.7 inches. It is housed in a metal housing, on the back of which there is a dual-lens camera with a 50 megapixel sensor.

But that’s not bad where it ends.

As soon as you unpack it for the first time you can tell that the Nothing Phone (2) is different. Firstly, the back is made of transparent plastic, which reveals a particularly original arrangement of the LEDs. This allows visual alerts to be generated as the LEDs light up in a rhythm that varies depending on the type of alert and the state of the phone.

So it’s a new interface that Nothing just created. Especially because it can be personalized to replace the ringtone when certain people call or when we receive messages from certain senders or in certain specific applications.

There’s a 32-megapixel front camera on the front, ideal for video calls or selfies on the go. Nothing hasn’t put as much emphasis on its phone’s photo editing capabilities as Google has on the Pixel, but the quality of the result is still good.

Under the hood, a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor is probably the biggest disappointment with this device. It’s a processor with pretty decent performance, but it’s also a processor that came out last year. The new Android phones this fall have mostly switched to the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2, which performs better, especially in terms of battery life.

However, at $929, the Nothing Phone (2) is undoubtedly a standout phone. It remains to be seen whether it can perform well over time. Its $999 version, equipped with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of basic internal storage, could ensure durability at least equal to the market average for Android devices.
