Nova Scotia wildfire growing

A wildfire has been raging near Horseshoe Lake in Yarmouth County, southwest Nova Scotia, since Monday afternoon.

Two helicopters and crews from across the province, as well as the water bomber, are being mobilized to fight the fire, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Renewable Energy said on Twitter Wednesday morning.

The size of the fire is estimated at 1,000 hectares, but as of Monday afternoon it was 50 hectares.

“The numbers will most likely fluctuate until we reduce the smoke and can see and accurately measure the fire better,” ministry spokesman Steven Stewart wrote on Twitter.

A CL-415 water bomber from Newfoundland and Labrador arrived Tuesday night to fight the growing wildfire.

Conditions across the province are very dry and fires are banned in Shelburne, Yarmouth or Queens counties, according to the ministry.
