Now it is impossible not to notice him

Megan from Minnetonka, Minnesota

Who is still ready for the start of the regular season?

You can’t see it, but I raise my hand.

Spoff, what might we have missed last night? PS: I can’t wait for this segment to return. It’s always insightful.

It’ll be back soon enough, but I thought Jordan Love would have taken it a step further. Yes, there were a few shots he should have made, but Romeo Doubs, Samori Toure and Amari Rodgers all had catchable balls for big plays that got away. Love didn’t hesitate and delivered some quality supplies downstairs. I also liked what the left side of the offensive line did with those nice runs from Tyler Goodson in the second quarter. Those cutback lanes kept getting wider, and this is the best the Packers’ ground game has looked like this summer.

I saw everything I needed to see from Jordan Love tonight. The Packers’ future at QB is bright. But I need to see more of special teams. How would you rate that? The future of special teams is… blurry? Stormy?

I’m not jumping to conclusions. Bisaccia has work to do, but he’ll dive in with a lot of panache. I contend he’s looking for the guys he can count on and the ones he can’t count on won’t be out there. I suspect that the whole change of personnel – trying out the guys per se – led to the number problems.

Do you think any of the USFL boys have a solid shot at making the last 53? Micah Abernathy seemed obvious during yesterday’s game. I’m curious if he can survive a few days from here.

I also. He’s made some very athletic plays and if he can help on special teams he’ll move from Longshot to Have-a-Shot.

Watching the Saints play, as a total ignoramus, I felt like the chaff and the chaff on the roster were starting to separate. Do you think Gutey’s job got easier or harder last night?

I don’t think it’s ever easy and the preseason games aren’t the be-all and end-all. However, they do provide clues as to who might be claimed and that always feeds into the final analysis.

Whatever Danny Etling does in his NFL career, he’ll be able to tell his grandkids about the night he ran 51 yards for a touchdown that Aaron Rodgers described as nearly 18½ miles per hour!

These bikes were impressive. Even more was heard from LaFleur after the game that he had turned the game into a reading option himself. It takes a little courage for a man in his place and he pulled it off, great.

Aaron wore a headset with a microphone during the game. Who is he communicating with?

I believe the attacking coaches upstairs in the dressing room and others on the sidelines. They’re all on the same channel.

Isaiah McDuffie is absolutely REAL! A man on a mission! Proud of him!

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen such a dramatic jump from year 1 to year 2 by a player who isn’t a starter or in the regular scrimmage rotation. McDuffie was barely audible as a newcomer and now it’s impossible not to notice him.

Is Caleb Jones the first to get off the bus?

I don’t know, but it’s not just because of its size that it stands out. With that said, the rest of this column will focus on pre-game thoughts, and I promise to address more questions from the game in Monday’s column. Thank you for your understanding.

Hi Mike, (I’m formerly Mark from Regina) Just thought I’d congratulate you on Kelsey’s pre-game anthem success. Of course I’m writing this a few hours before the event, but I’m doing this for a reason. My daughter Caelegh was recently asked to perform the Canadian national anthem for the Toronto Maple Leafs for a preseason game. I think (know) I was more of a wreck than they were for days. She did great, I’m sure Kelsey will too!

Dad was definitely more nervous than daughter but she pulled through and it’s an unforgettable memory for all of us. Thanks to everyone for the good wishes and appreciation. Please trust that everything has been read and appreciated.
