Numbers are rising again: 7,093 new infections

7,093 new corona infections have been reported since yesterday, so the numbers have increased again. There were five deaths in the last 24 hours.

The numbers continue to rise: 7,093 new corona infections were reported in Austria as of Thursday morning. This is above the average of the last seven days, which is 4639. The seven-day incidence was 361.7 cases per 100,000 population. There were five official deaths related to the disease in 24 hours, with an average of 4.7 in the last seven days.

There were 500 people in the hospital over the holiday, eleven fewer than reported yesterday. 31 people were treated in intensive care units. That number has dropped by three since yesterday and dropped by eight patients in a week. 33 deaths were recorded in the last seven days. Overall, the Covid 19 pandemic has already killed 18,720 people in Austria since its inception.

As of Thursday, there were 52,721 active cases in Austria, 3,613 more than the day before. Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 4,312,525 confirmed cases in Austria. 4,241,084 people have recovered since the beginning of the epidemic and 3,475 were considered healthy again in the last 24 hours.

In the last 24 hours, 89,200 rapid PCR and antigen tests were recorded. Of these, 72,398 were significant PCR tests, with a positive rate of 9.8%. This 24-hour value is above last week’s average (an average of 5.5 percent of positive PCR tests).

More than 60 percent of the population with vaccine protection

3,351 vaccinations were performed on Wednesday (162 first, 294 second and 2,895 third bites). According to e-vaccination card data, a total of 6,830,332 people have received at least one vaccine. 5,651,175 people and therefore 62.9% of Austrians have valid vaccination protection.

The protection rate (valid vaccination certificate) is highest in Burgenland at 70.3%. In Lower Austria 66.2 percent of the population has valid vaccination protection, in Styria 64 percent. After Vienna (61.7), Tyrol (60.8), Carinthia (59.8), Vorarlberg (59.4) and Salzburg (58.8), Upper Austria follows with 58.2 percent.

The federal state with the highest seven-day incidence is currently Vienna with 583.1, followed by Vorarlberg, Lower Austria and Salzburg (408.4, 399.2 and 345.1 respectively). Then come Burgenland (316.8), Upper Austria (263.5), Tyrol (262.9), Styria (232.2) and Carinthia (180.3).
