In other major U.S. cities where police departments have increased vigilance in recent weeks amid concerns about terrorism or violent protests over the conflict in Gaza, officials said they had little fear that Halloween would bring additional threats .
Tens of thousands are expected to flock to Manhattan for the parade, with officials acknowledging that the variety of colors and costumes could complicate their work.
“We will be out there in an elevated position,” New York City Police Chief Jeffrey Maddrey told Fox 5 on Monday.
“Right now we’re just living in a different time, with the war in Israel,” he added, before noting that “there are no concrete, credible threats at this time.”
Officials warned revelers to remain vigilant, and Maddrey concluded: “We see the tensions and there is a lot of hostility out there.”
