Good news for those looking for a new travel destination this year: North American newspaper The News York Times has listed the best places to visit in 2023. The ranking selected 52 postcodes, including paradisiacal beaches and mountain regions. The beauty of the dunes of the LençóisMaranhenses National Park and the cultural expanse of Manaus also gained a place on the list of nominees.
According to the New York Times, the ranking presents places with great culture, gastronomy, adventure, natural areas and other elements that catch the attention of travelers. Alternatives, certain travel destinations are even little explored by tourists.
Lencois Maranhenses National Park
The Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, which ranks 11th, is one of the most attractive places on the list. The space is dotted with white dunes and natural pools, which the newspaper describes as “supernatural.” The region also offers horseback riding, 4×4 adventures, and sand slides that end in the park’s warm waters.
“Welcome to Lençóis Maranhenses, a horizon of rolling white sand dunes rising in the sun and descending into unearthly green and blue lagoons filled with rainwater,” reports the NYT.
The region is suitable for those looking for peace and relaxation. Despite the publication’s warning that the destination has few people and trees, the Maranhão peak not only evokes the heat, but also the appearance of a lunar water park. Due to the depth of the lagoon, it is worth visiting between May and September.

Açaí, tucumã, tacacá, tapioca and pirarucu are examples of typical Manaus dishes. The capital of the Amazon, Manaus, ranked 41st in the ranking for good gastronomic experiences. According to the North American newspaper, the Amazon ingredients used in their cooking deserve special mention.
“You can taste steaming tacacá squashes at a stand in front of the Teatro Amazonas or walk past plastic bottles of tucupi, the juice made from grated cassava, at the Mercado Municipal Adolpho Lisboa. Amazonian ingredients are a reality,” he says.
For lovers of unusual recipes, the New York Times recommends the Michelinstarred local restaurant Biatüwi, which combines dishes with typical Amazonian ingredients like lemongrassscented ants and tambaqui ribs.
