O Grito das Mariposas, a series that tells the story of activist Minerva Mirabal, premiered exclusively on Star+ on March 8th. The production is a creation of Juan Pablo Buscarini and inspired by the life of the Dominican who was assassinated along with her sisters on November 25, 1960 by order of the dictator Rafael Trujillo.
The fact was a milestone in the country’s history and the Mirabal sisters became references in the fight against genderbased violence worldwide. Since 1999, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women has been celebrated every November 25th. However, the production mixes fiction and reality and depicts life on an island ruled by the dictator Rafael Leónidas Trujillo.

The dictator known as “el Chivo” ruled the country from 1930 until his death in 1961. Directed by Mariano Hueter, Leandro Ipiña and Inés París, the series’ cast includes Guillermo Toledo, Mercedes Sampietro, Héctor Noas, Maridalia Hernández and Jairo Camargo , Essined Aponte, Alina Robert, Camila Issa, Luis Alberto García and Belén Rueda.
The protagonist will be played by Sandy Hernández and Arantxa Oyamburu will come to life with Susana Abaitua, who will narrate this story in a total of 13 episodes. Star+’s exclusive series covers issues such as violence against women, female empowerment, the struggle for democracy, abuse of power and political corruption.
