How many floors will Oblisco Capitale have?

Either way, the Oblisco Capitale could be the next tallest building in the world, standing at 1080 meters tall, or a total of 236 floors. Let’s make a comparison: The Burj Khalifa, for example, is 830 meters high that means the Oblisco Capitale will be about 200 meters higher. And the land reserved for him is in the area where the country’s “new administrative capital” will be built.

Why is the Egyptian government building Oblisco Capitale?

Let us first explain the question of the new capital in more detail. For years, Egypt has been planning solutions to address Cairo’s overcrowding problems caused by traffic, pollution and more. Even the construction of government buildings lacked order. And the proposal adopted was the creation of a new capital, still without a final name. It will then be part of a project started in 2016 to restructure Egypt economically, socially and environmentally by 2030 (“Egypt Vision 2030”).

In short, the objectives of the project for the country’s new capital begin with the concentration of government structures in a single area to improve administrative efficiency. Then, decongest Cairo and create a sustainable, modern and cosmopolitan city with worldclass facilities and infrastructure. Ultimately, economic and technological development in the Middle East should be better promoted.

President Abdul Fatah Khalil AlSisi is responsible for developing this ambitious plan, together with the companies El Nasr Housing and Development. The Oblisco Capitale project was designed by the Egyptian architectural firm IDIA.

How was the design of Oblisco Capitale inspired by Egyptian culture?

I don’t know if you noticed from the pictures, but the name “Oblisco Capitale” refers to the shape that IDIA designed for this building, which is the shape of an obelisk; The idea is to reference the Pharaonic phase of the nation. Another suggestion was to use the Egyptian lotus pattern on the exterior, a plant with historical significance in ancient Egyptian culture.

In addition, it is said that the Oblisco Capitale will have many good sustainable features, including the use of glass that rotates to provide shade and reduce internal heat, as well as the incorporation of solar panels that capture solar energy and convert it into electrical energy convert energy. Cladding of the south facade of the building.

In theory, everything seems incredible so far, right? However, some argue that Oblisco Capitale may not even get off the ground, especially because its project does not meet the country’s current needs. The points of criticism are diverse. There are experts who claim that the project could accelerate the development of Cairo’s slums and that more pressing problems need to be solved in Egypt.

It is worth noting that similar projects in Egypt’s past were not always completely successful, for example in the city of Sadat, which never became the planned capital.

For now, the forecast for the construction of the Oblisco Capitale is revised to begin in 2024 and end in 2030. The estimated cost of the skyscraper’s work is $3.2 billion, which will have to be financed by the People’s Republic of China’s debt to Egypt.
