The Director General of FPF Football said they have taken measures to avoid cases like the one in the Qatar 2022 play-offs where the team was eventually eliminated.
This June marks a year since the Peru team were eliminated from the World Cup in Qatar 2022, when Ricardo Gareca’s side lost to Australia on penalties. Weeks after the defeat, however, it was revealed that the Bicolor had arrived with a long guest list from the squad. After several months without commenting on the case, the Director General of Football of the FPF said, Juan Carlos Oblitas, broke his silence.
The ex-soccer player gave details of what had happened before this important meeting and explained that all the directors of the Peruvian Football Federation (including yourself) are responsible for this topic.
“It got out of hand with the number of travelers. Here we all allow it and it got out of hand. When situations like this happen, we all have to take responsibility,” he said in an interview with Carlos Univazo.
Faced with this situation, the popular “Blind” revealed that the federation is working on an internal regulation for the Blanquirroja side to avoid this type of case.
“I can say that we are making internal rules for the Peru team and for the chosen ones so as not to repeat what happened,” he said.
Low level of Peru vs Australia
Although he admitted that they failed on the logistical part, Juan Carlos Oblitas He specified that the team didn’t have a great game against Australia.
“I don’t remember if many were in the same hotel but I think it’s part of the strategy. In particular, I think the central part of my criticism and analysis is that we played one of the lowest games in Ricardo Gareca’s era, when we should have played the best in history,” he said.
