After the partial mobilization ordered by Vladimir Putin on Wednesday, Nikolai Peskov, 32, replies to a fake police officer that he will not go to the police station and will “solve it on another level”.

“Hello Nikolai? It is the military commissariat speaking to you”. The day after the announcement of the mobilization of the Russian reserve to fight the war in Ukraine, the team of the opponent Alexei Navalny wanted to capture the son of the Kremlin spokesman. In a staging filmed and broadcast by Russian independent outlet The Insider, at the end of the line we hear the voice of Nikolai, son of Dmitry Peskov, 32 and of draft age, who refuses to report to the police station.

“Today you received a summons and you still haven’t responded,” begins Dmitry Nizovtsev, host of Popular Politics, a YouTube channel created by Navalny supporters and posing as a Russian police officer. He then gave him an appointment at the police station the next morning: “We’ll expect you at 10 a.m.”.

At the end of the line, Nikolai answers hesitantly. “Of course I won’t be there tomorrow at 10 a.m.,” he replies. “You should understand that I’m Mr. Peskov,” he continues, embarrassed, “and that it’s not exactly my job to be there (…) Anyway, I’ll solve that… on another level”.

The partial mobilization allows Russia to commandeer its reservists, which number about two million. In fact, Vladimir Putin pointed out that only “those who have already served (…) and have relevant experience” will be called up, i.e. 300,000 people, less than a quarter of the entire reserve. Since that announcement, Russian airports have faced an onslaught of Russians wanting to leave the country. Internet searches for “how to break your arm” skyrocketed after President Putin’s morning speech.
