‘Ocean’s 11’ Prequel: Producer Teases Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling Film Will ‘Stick to the Franchise’

Josey McNamara previews the in-the-works prequel to Ocean’s 11, which will star Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling and reunite the Barbie stars in a new film.

“They are wonderful together. It would be great to be able to do more projects beyond that,” McNamara told Games Radar at the BFI London Film Festival during the red carpet in Saltburn.

As for the film’s actual premise, McNamara remained tight-lipped, but teased that it would “do the franchise justice.”

“I can’t really say much,” McNamara said, “but I think we’re just trying to do the right thing for the franchise. “I’m excited for people to experience it when it’s finished.”

The film has been in “active development” since last year, with Carrie Solomon writing the prequel set in 1960s Europe. Robbie and Tom Ackerly will produce for LuckyChap, along with Roach and Michelle Graham for Everyman Pictures. LuckyChap’s Gary Ross, Olivia Milch and Josey McNamara will executive produce alongside Village Roadshow, which may also co-finance the film.

The Ocean’s franchise was created by Steven Soderbergh in 2001 and is based on the 1960 Rat Pack picture. George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Julia Roberts starred in the film, which ended up grossing over $450 million worldwide -dollars brought in. A sequel titled “Ocean’s Twelve” was released in 2004, followed by “Ocean’s Thirteen” in 2007. In 2018, “Ocean’s 8” was released with a female-centric cast that included Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Sarah Paulson , Mindy Kaling, Awkafina and Helena belonged to Bonham Carter and Rihanna.
