Odessa: Russian drone strike damages grain infrastructure

A Russian drone strike damaged Ukraine’s grain infrastructure in the Odessa region (south) overnight, local governor Oleg Kiper said on Wednesday morning.

Russia had “attacked the south of the Odessa region with attack drones for three hours,” Kiper said on Telegram, explaining that “production and transshipment complexes” were hit with no civilian casualties.

A fire broke out there in an area of 700 m2 but was contained, he added.

“Attics” used to store grain “are among the damaged locations,” Mr Kiper said.

In total, the army destroyed nine Shahed-136/131 drones on the east coast of the Sea of Azov, the Defense Forces of Southern Ukraine reported on Telegram.

Since Moscow in July pulled out of a grain deal that allowed Ukraine to export grain despite the conflict, Russia has multiplied its bombing of Ukrainian port infrastructure. For its part, Kiev has used its drones to attack the Russian fleet, an oil tanker, or even the bridges to Crimea, annexed in 2014.

Ukraine has also established a sea corridor for the Joseph Schulte, a cargo ship that reached Turkey last week without being attacked by Russia.
