Microsoft has confirmed certain information that has been rumored for several weeks. We know that four Xbox games are coming to rival consoles and that the brand is working on a next-gen Xbox. However, the company also confirmed that all of its games will be released on Xbox Game Pass on day one.
All Xbox Day One games on Xbox Game Pass, including Call of Duty!
Among the rumors of the last few weeks, some doubted that Call of Duty would eventually be included in Xbox Game Pass. But Microsoft brushes that rumor aside by confirming that all Xbox-developed games will be available on the service from day one. Matt Booty, head of Xbox Studios, confirmed this during the Xbox podcast.
Firstly, all of our games will be available on the Xbox platform. Second, all of our games will be included in Game Pass from day one. And third, we know that Game Pass will only be available on Xbox.
This is a very clear statement that confirms that the next Activision Blizzard games will be available as soon as they are released on Xbox Game Pass. The big question remains whether Call of Duty 2024 will appear in Game Pass directly at the end of the year or whether there is an agreement between Sony and Activision before the takeover.
During hearings between Microsoft, the FTC and the CMA in 2023, the latter announced that Call of Duty would not appear on Xbox Game Pass until 2025. In its final report, which ran to over 400 pages, the CMA highlighted the various benefits that Microsoft could have benefited from had the acquisition been validated. Regarding the question of Call of Duty and its inclusion in Xbox Game Pass, it was noted in particular that the latter would not be added to the service before 2025:
Based on this, we expect the benefits to be felt within a reasonable time frame (although in practice there will likely be some delay between the completion of the merger and the launch of CoD. Game Pass in 2025).
