The college football world is waiting Jeremiah Smith. The nation's top player in the Class of 2024 publicly reiterated his one-year commitment to Ohio State on Wednesday, Signing Day, but has not yet submitted a binding letter of intent.
In a public ceremony at Chaminade-Madonna High School in South Florida, Smith appeared to sign his letter of intent, which had to be signed and sent to the school of his choice to be binding. This happened at 12:30 pm ET.
As of 7:30 p.m. ET, Ohio State has not announced that it has received Smith's LOI. That opening has led to an increase in speculation on social media and message boards that perhaps the Miami Hurricanes or Florida State Seminoles, candidates for Smith's recruitment, made a winning pitch in the 11th hour.
By early afternoon, sources at Ohio State weren't worried about Smith's late LOI. Head coach Ryan Day expressed relief during his Signing Day press conference when an off-camera person informed him that the recipient had reaffirmed his commitment at a ceremony in Hollywood, Florida. But something has delayed Smith's submission of his letter of intent, and the parties involved are largely silent.

Meanwhile, people close to Smith did not immediately respond to messages from 247Sports when contacted Wednesday evening.
With Smith on the roster, Ohio State's class is ranked No. 4 in the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings. The Hurricanes are one spot ahead of third place; Miami hasn't signed a player since linebacker DJ Williams in 2000. Florida State's class is ranked No. 9.
